Hello everyone! My name is Magister Craft. Today we will learn about the racetrack, about the Circus Maximus! Tarquin the Elder first built a racetrack, but now we see the racetrack of Augustus. On the exterior part of the racetrack are shops. Sometimes shopkeepers lived in homes above their shops. In the interior part of the racetrack, there are twelve starting gates. In the sand are two turning posts. Look, second turning post. Around the sand is water. Look, statues. These are eggs. The eggs indicate how many times the horses have gone around the turning posts. Look, the obelisk of Augustus. Look, the dolphins of Agrippa. Near the first turning post is a temple of the Sun. In the sand is the shrine of Murcia. Here under the earth is a shrine of Consus. This is the emperor’s box. Sometimes from this box Augustus would watch the races. In the racetrack the entertainment is horses, boxing and hunts. In the races of horses there are four teams. Horses run around the turning posts in either two-horse or four-horse chariots. Bigae have two horses. Quadrigae have four horses.Boxers fight with boxers. In the hunt, men fight with beasts. The water around the racetrack defends people from the beats. Circus Labeling Label with a letter A-G A C C G G E D F B
