Read the article below, then answer the questions. THE NAZI P ARTYGERMAN WORKERS PARTYMany people in Germany were shocked and disappointed when World War I ended and theircountry was defeated. A small group of Germans who were upset formed a new political partycalled the German Workers Party. This group of strong nationalists believed the most importantgoal was to restore German pride and prosperity. When Adolf Hitler joined the German WorkersParty, there were less than 100 members. He became the main speaker and leader of the group. NATIONAL SOCIALIST GERMAN WORKERS PARTYIn 1920, the group changed their name to the National Socialist German Workers Party, or theNazis. They only wanted people of “German blood” to be a part of their newly restored country. Nazis looked down on Jews and people from other groups. Often after a country has been defeated in war, aneconomic collapse has occurred, or other disasters, people will look for someone who can maketheir lives better. Leaders make convincing promises and entice people to follow them. More andmore people joined Hitler’s Nazi Party and the group became more powerful.
