Read and fill in the blanks with the correct word . The Dilmun Burial Mounds is a serial property formed by 21 archaeological sites located in the western part of the island of Bahrain. There are about 12,000 burial mounds which origins date back thousands of years, making it one of the largest graveyards in the ancient world. These mounds were constructed by the Dilmun civilisation over a period of 450 years, approximately between 2200 and 1750 BCE.The mounds are composed of a central stone chamber with a low ring-wall and are covered by earth and gravel. Archaeologists believe that the burial sites were originally constructed as cylindrical low towers, and the different sizes of the mounds indicate the different social status with the grandest of them all being the royal mounds.Researchers have found skeletons and skulls of adults, and some items such as weapons, pottery and ivory objects in the chambers. In the same mounds, scientists discovered smaller bones of babies outside the ring wall.Allowing researchers to continue studying the ruins is helpful in learning more about this advanced civilisation and their descendants and that will help future generations to learn more about their ancestors and the Dilmun civilisation.
