Staff, Lines, Spaces Musical notation is written so that we can tell when notes sound higher or lower. To do this, we use a musical STAFF. A staff is made usingFIVE LINESwhich also createsFOUR SPACES.The five lines are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from bottom to top. The four lines are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 from bottom to top.
