Microscopes
Label and learn microscope parts! Practice magnification calculations. Great for science students.
Monocular Microscope Label the parts of the microscope. Type them like you see here: revolving nosepiece, stage clips, eyepiece (ocular lens), arm, diaphragm, coarse adjustment knob, stage, base, light source, fine coarse adjustment, objective lenses eye piece (ocular lens) revolving nosepiece stage clips arm diaphragm coarse adjustment knob stage base light source fine coarse adjustment objective lenses Functions of the Parts of the Microscope EYEPIECE This part allows you to view the image on the stage and contains the ocular lens. NOSEPIECE This part holds the objective lenses and is able to rotate to change magnification. OBJECTIVE LENSES These are found on the nosepiece and range from low to high power. STAGE CLIPS These are used to hold a slide in place on the stage. LIGHT SOURCE Projects light upwards through the diaphragm to allow you to see the specimen. ARM This part on the side of the microscope is used to support it when it is carried. COARSE ADJUSTMENT KNOB This part moves the stage up and down to help you get the specimen into view. FINE ADJUSTMENT KNOB This part moves the stage slightly to help you sharpen or “fine” tune your view of the specimen. DIAPHRAGM This part of the microscope helps you adjust the amount of light that reaches the specimen BASE The bottom part of the microscope. STAGE Part of the microscope that supports the slide that is being viewed COVER SLIP Name for the small plastic or glass piece that is used to cover a water drop on a slide. SLIDE Small glass plate on which specimen are placed for viewing POWER Refers to the degree of magnification for a lens If my ocular lens is 10x and my total magnification is 400x, the what is the magnification of my objective lens? 10x 40x 350x 4x
