Spelling in Context: Use each spelling word to complete the story. Mysteries for the Moonship One morning Mr. Goodkind asked his students to go on a scavenger hunt. He divided the class into teams. Each team decided on a name for themselves. Zach, Katy, Mark, and Amanda chose Moonshop as their team name. Then Mr. Goodkind gave each team a list of things to find. The Moonship team began to grown. Their list was hidden in three riddles. Mark read the first riddle: Let the pan go from warm to hot, And into orbit I am shot. Sputter, sputter, pour on the butter!"Let's go!" Zachary said. "Maybe the answer will pop into our heads. Pop... popcorn!" "Popcorn is the answer!" the team shouted. Moonship headed toward Mark's house to get some popcorn. They found a quart of milk and drank it. Then Mark's dad helped them pop some popcorn. They washed the milk carton with water and put the popcorn in. The second riddle was harder: From dawn to dark I nibble and crawl. My soft fuzzy body is low and small. When the time comes, I spin a soft wrap. I yawn and curl up inside for a nap. I wake up and am not what I was before. I've beautiful wings and the sky to explore. "A baby takes a nap and crawls," said Mark. "Hey Zach! Stop eating our popcorn. This is important. Think!" "I am thinking about how good this popcorn would taste if it had some butter on it. Butter.... butterfly!" Zach exclaimed."No. But a caterpillar is the answer!" said Amanda. The Moonship team searched until they found a caterpillar near the shore of the pond at the city park. From there they headed north to Katy's house. Katy read the next riddle: In spring I rise, damp and green. In a place like a lawn is where I am seen. Yet soon I'm a basket, I'm a hat. I'm a broom, I'm a welcome mat. Scarecrows and haystacks are made from me. Burning matches I hate to see. "Straw!" the Moonship team sang out in chorus as they grabbed a broom from the kitchen. With the straw broom, caterpillar, and popcorn, they raced back to school. Soon they arrived at their classroom to report to Mr. Goodkind. "Well, Moonship," Mr. Goodkind said. "You got here before the others. Your team will get a perfect score!
