All of the information is on the PBS Learning Media lesson: Technology Over Time posted in Google Classroom. 1900-1930 Emile Berliner invents the gramophone. Almon Brown Stowger develops a switching system that is controlled by a dial on a telephone. Crystal radio receivers are available to the public. The first electric refrigerators are sold to the home market. 1931-1950 Freon for refrigeration is mass produced by the Kinetic Chemical Corporation. The Model 302 telephone is one of the first to have a built-in ringer. Tupperware containers are first available in retail stores. The first LP records are developed and sold to the public. 1951-1970 The portable Regency radio is available for public purchase. Stereo sound from different directions, or the beginning of surround sound is invented. Compact cassettes for recordings are invented and sold. Microwave ovens are first sold to the general public. 1971-1990 The first fully-assembled personal computer is made available to the public by Apple. Miniature radios are incorporated into headphones. The Sony Walkman is invented and sells rapidly. CDs are the newest thing in recorded music. 1991-2000 The Rolling Stones stream a live concert on the Web. DVD players are introduced in the United States. TiVo is the first digital video recorder. Wireless networks are now in peoples' homes and not just businesses. 2001-Present IPods and MP3 Players! The launch of the Smartphone. A handheld computer. High-power televisions must be in a digital format according to the FCC. Smart Homes connect refrigerators, lights, thermostats, and doorbells to the internet.
