Looking at some interesting verbs in Spanish
Introducción When you conjugate a verb, you separate the infinitive into two parts: the stem and the ending. Once you remove the -AR|-ER|-IR ending from the infinitive, all you need to do is add the correct ending for the subject. This process works wonderfully for most of the verbs in Spanish! We refer to those verbs as regular verbs. However, if there are such a thing as regular verbs, that also means that there will be some irregular verbs, too! Today we are going to look at some irregular verbs that you've already seen, and introduce a new one, too. SER The verb ser means 'to be' in English. In Spanish, there are two different verbs that express being (ser and estar). We can use it to talk about your age, possession, and also to express having to do something (we use the conjunction 'que' to do that). First, watch the embedded video, then fill in the chart. Ir is an -IR verb that uses an irregular scheme to conjugate! It's an -IR verb, but it doesn't use -IR verb endings. What are the different constructions that are used with ir? Van a come en una cafetería. hacer Hacer is a super-useful verb! We use it to express doing and making. When you're talking about 'making' it's super straight forward. El pastelero hace un pastel. The baker makes a cake. Papá y yo hacemos la cena. Dad and I make dinner.Now let's talk about the 'dos' and 'don'ts' of "DO." Do use hacer to express 'doing' like: Vosotros hacéis la tarea. Y'all do the homework. Don't use hacer as an auxiliary verb when asking a question like: Do you study for the test? ¿Estudias tú para el examen? Note: When asking a question, write your ¿, then the verb, then the subject. You won't translate the word "do" to Spanish! The verb hacer works like every other -ER verb, with exception to the yo form. The Spanish language always changes the spelling of words to accommodate their pronunciation. The letter makes a soft "sss" (like in Yasssssss!) sound before an or an The letter makes a hard sound in front of the letters and So in the yo form, the spelling changes from to to 'soften' the pronunciation.
