Frases Útiles «¿De dónde eres tú?» means "where are you from?" It's a question that you would ask to a person that you're on a first name basis with.When a person asks you where you are from, you respond with «Yo soy de _,» which means "I am from _." Here's an example conversation: -«Raquel, ¿de dónde eres tú?» –«Yo soy de Downingtown.» ¿De dónde eres tú? Respond to the question with a complete sentence saying where you are from. La nacionalidad When a person talks about where they are from, they may tell you their nationality instead of saying the country. For example, if you asked a person where they were from, and they said, "I am Mexican," you could figure out that they were from Mexico :)In Spanish, people from the USA don't say that their nationality is American. The adjective "American" actually refers to anyone from North, Central, or South America! In Spanish, we refer to the United States as «Los Estados Unidos,» so our nationality is "estadounidense." This is because adjectives in Spanish match the genderof the nounthey're describing. Take a look:Alberto es chileno.(masculine)Mariana es chilena.(feminine)Both Alberto and Mariana are from Chile, but the adjective "chileno" (Chilean) ends in an "o" when describing Alberto because he is a man, and an "a" to describe Mariana because she is a woman.
