Central Till Plains This region is covered with large, flat plains. Agriculture, or the business of farming, is important in this region. This region has very fertile soil which makes it easy to grow crops. This region is the middle third of Indiana. Southern Lowlands This region has many forests and rivers, and is rich with minerals. Many people in this region work in the forests or coal mines. The glaciers never reached this region, but their runoff formed caves and rocky riverbeds. This region covers the southern third of Indiana.
