DNA Structure
Master DNA structure and replication! Label diagrams, match base pairs, and understand nucleotides.
Complete the blanks. DNA Structure:The shape of DNA is known as a double helix. The shape looks like a twisted ladder. The phosphate and deoxyribose sugar form the backbone or sides of the DNA ladder, while the nitrogen bases form the steps or middle of the DNA ladder. Match the base pairs. Adenine Thymine Guanine Cytosine Thymine Adenine Cytosine Guanine DNA Structure Fill in each of the blank spaces to label the DNA Structure. Use the terms in the word bank (COPY AND PASTE!!!!)Word Bankdeoxyribose sugarphosphatenucleotidebase pairhydrogen bondTAAGGG A G T A G G phosphate deoxyribose sugar hydrogen bond base pair nucleotide Put the correct word in the blank. DNA is a large molecule found in every cell of your body. It's made of building blocks called nucleotides. The order of these nucleotides codes for the different proteins that make up your body. DNA is bundled (or condensed) in structures called chromosomes found in the nucleus of every cell. Each nucleotide is composed of a phosphate, pentose sugar, and a nitrogenous base. DNA is composed of two strands that run in opposite directions. The names of the nitrogenous bases are adenine, guanine, thymine, and cytosine. Adenine (A) always pairs with thymine (T) through hydrogen bonds and guanine (G) always pairs with cytosine (C) through hydrogen bonds. Draw a nucleotide. Include (and label) a sugar, phosphate, and base. Write the sequence that would be matching, or complimentary to the sequence given. USE CAPITAL LETTERS!!! True False Complete the sentences. a) DNA replication occurs in the nucleus.b) Adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine are the four nitrogen bases.c) In DNA, cytosine always forms hydrogen bonds with guanine.d) The process of replication produces a new copy of an organism's genetic information.e) The double coiled shape of DNA is called a double helix.f) In DNA, thymine always goes with adenine.g) When DNA is replicated, it contains one old strand and one new strand.
