Standard Biology: Cells and their organelles
Label and learn cell parts! Biology worksheet on organelles and their functions.
Use the word bank to fill in the diagram. Make sure you type the word exactly as it appears so that the computer does not mark it incorrect. mitochondria cytoplasm smooth ER ribosomes centriole rough ER Golgi apparatus nucleus cell membrane small vacuole lysosome vesicle cytoplasm smooth ER nucleus vesicle Golgi apparatus centriole ribosomes cell membrane mitochondria small vacuole lysosome rough ER Use the word bank to label the cell below. Make sure you type the word exactly as it appears so that the computer does not mark it incorrect. mitochondria cytoplasm smooth ER ribosome rough ER Golgi apparatus nucleus cell membrane large vacuole chloroplast cell wall nucleus rough ER smooth ER large vacuole chloroplast mitochondria ribosome Golgi apparatus cell membrane cell wall cytoplasm Cell Organelles - Match that Organelle Mitochondria I am the powerhouse of the cell. I am responsible for converting glucose into ATP (the molecule that the cell uses for energy) during cellular respiration Cell Membrane I create a barrier between the inside and outside of the cell. I control what enters and leaves the cell and am made mostly of phospholipids Cytoplasm I am the jelly-like substance inside the cell. Because I am made mostly of water, I can dissolve many substances for transport and chemical reactions. Smooth ER You can find me in many different cells types. I make lipids, including phospholipids and steroids. Nucleus I am the control center of the cell. I contain DNA and control what the cell does and when. Ribosomes I link amino acids together with peptide bonds to form proteins. Sometimes I am free-floating in the cytoplasm and sometimes I am attached to the endoplasmic reticulum, making it rough. Centriole my main function is to help with cell division in animal cells. I help the formation of the spindle fibers that separate the chromosomes during cell division Rough ER I am a network of structures responsible for the synthesis of proteins. They call me rough because I’m surrounded by ribosomes. Golgi Apparatus I am a packaging center within the cell. I package and modify proteins and lipids after they are made in the endoplasmic reticulum Lysosome I am the waste disposal system of the cell. I am responsible for the digestion and removal of macromolecules the cell no longer needs. I also breakdown the bacteria that enters the cell. I am the destroyer! Chloroplasts I am home to a green substance called chlorophyll. I help trap sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water to glucose and oxygen during photosynthesis. I am found in plants and a few protists. Vacuole I store water and dissolved substances within my walls. I am present in both animal and plant cells, however I’m much larger in plants. I also help keep plant cells full so that the plant doesn't look wilted. Cell Wall I am the tough covering around plant cells made of cellulose. I give them strength and hold them in shape. Vesicle I am like a taxi cab and transport molecules around the cell. Sometimes I fuse with the cell membrane to expel wastes during exocytosis. Flagellum I am a long structure made of protein that looks like a tail. My presence indicates that the cell is motile. I can be found on eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Cillia We are many little hair-like proteins covering the outside of the cell used for locomotion. I can be found on eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Motile (vocab term, not an organelle) able to move.
