Ecological Organization
Master ecological levels and roles! Science worksheet on organisms, populations, ecosystems, and more.
You may use this video to review the concepts again that we discussed in class... sometimes, hearing it again and in a different way can really help! Just another study resource! Levels of Organization Organism A single living thing Population a group of species living together in the same area Community A group of different species that live in the same habitat and interact with one another Ecosystem A community of organisms and their non-living environment Biosphere all of the world and it's atmosphere that support life List the levels of ecology from the smallest (most specific) to the broadest. Use the Word bank provided to fill in the blanks.WORD BANK:Community Population Biosphere Organism Ecosystem Biome Organism --> Population --> Community --> Ecosystem --> Biome --> Biosphere Match the description with the appropriate level of ecology: A single ant organism A colony of ants Population The ants, grass, and flowers found in a certain area Community The ants, grass, flowers, sun, and soil in a certain area Ecosystem A group of biotic and abiotic factors that share a similar climate and weather patterns Biome The portion of the earth that supports life Biosphere Watch the video on producers, consumers, and decomposers. Then answer the questions. Use the word bank to complete the sentences below:WORD BANK:Abiotic Consumer Biotic Producer Decomposer 1. A producer is an organism at the beginning of a food chain because they can produce their own food using energy from the sun2. Organisms that feed off of other organisms and cannot make their own are known as consumers3. A nonliving part of the environment is a(n) abioticfactor4. A living part of the environment is a(n) biotic factor5. Decomposers breakdown decaying organisms and nutrients are put back into the soil by bacteria and fungi Sort the organisms into producers, consumers, and decomposers. Producers (Autotrophs) grass trees corn flowers algae Consumers (Heterotrophs) wolf bird deer bear human Decomposers bacteria worms slugs mushrooms fungi Characteristics of Organisms Review Match the characteristic with its definition. Heterotrophic An organism that hunts for its food. Autotrophic An organism that can create its own food through the process of photosynthesis. Unicellular An organism that consists of only one cell. Multicellular A complex organism that is made up of many cells that all have a specific function and job. Prokaryotic (Hint... Pro means "NO") An organism that has DNA that is free floating. NO NUCLEUS. Eukaryotic An organism that has DNA that is located in the nucleus. Sexual Reproduction An organism that requires a mate to create an offspring that is not genetically identical. Asexual Reproduction An organism that does not require a mate to create a genetically identical copy of itself.
