Properties of Waves
Properties of Waves Click on each slide and read the notes. Copy the notes into the graphic organizer below. Parts of a Wave 1- Click on the star to select the line tool. Draw a straight line across the page.2- Click on the paint brush. Draw a traverse wave like a rope moving up and down over the top of the straight line.3- Use the text tool or "A" and label the top of the wave with "crest" and the bottom of the wave with "trough". Read the slides and find the missing words in the sentences below. Click on the blank line to open a box. Click on the word that completes the sentences and matches the sentences in the slides. Amplitude = wave heightlarger amplitude = more energy Amplitude You are going to create a drawing of amplitude. Use the slides to draw the picture for amplitude.1- Click on the star and select the line. Make a straight line left to right across the middle of the page.2- Next, click on the paint brush and make a transverse wave over the straight line.3-Then click on the shape and select the line tool. Draw the line up to the crest, and then another line down to the trough.4- Select the text tool or "A" and label the up and down lines as amplitude to show wave height. Use the sentences in the slides to find the missing words. Click on the blank lines to see the word bank. Choose the word that completes the sentence. Make sure your sentence matches the sentences on the slides. Wavelength= distance between 2 crests or 2 troughs -shorter wavelength = more energy Wavelength 1- Click on the star and select the line tool. Draw a straight line across the page left to right.2-Click on the paint brush and paint a transverse wave like a rope moving up and down over the straight line. Look at the slide picture to copy.3-Click on the text tool or "A" and type wavelength to label the distance between each wave.4-Use the stretch tool, to enlarge the text box or word wavelength you just typed to position it between two fixed points on the wave.5- Repeat steps to label a different place on the wave to show wavelength. Use the sentences in the slides to find the missing words. Click on the blank lines to see the word bank. Choose the word that completes the sentence. Make sure your sentence matches the sentences on the slides. Frequency= the number of waves that pass by a point each second. -higher frequency = more energy Frequency 1- Click on the star to select the line tool. Draw one line across the top left to right, and then another line near the bottom left to right.2- Select the paint brush and draw a wave over the straight line moving up and down to show more frequency. Look at the picture on the slide.3- Draw another wave across the bottom line to show a wave with less frequency. Look at the picture on the slide. Use the sentences in the slides to find the missing words. Click on the blank lines to see the word bank. Choose the word that completes the sentence. Make sure your sentence matches the sentences on the slides. Wave Speed = speed at whcih waves travel through a medium Wave Speed 1- Look at the picture on the slide for wave speed.2- Use the draw tools to create the picture.3- Label the picture to show the "wave speed" . wave motion, wave speed, breakers, amplitude wave speed, wave length, amplitude, frequency frequency, amplitude, medium, energy wave speed, wave length, amplitude, water wave speed amplitude wavelength frequency wave speed amplitude wavelength frequency wave speed amplitude wavelength frequency wave speed amplitude wavelength frequency slower wave speed, smaller amplitude, lower frequency larger maplitude, no wavelength, slower wave speed higher frequency, shorter wavlength, larger amplitude lower frequency, longer wavelength, smaller amplitude
