What is the Immune System The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body. One of the important cells involved are white blood cells, also called leukocytes, which come in two basic types that combine to seek out and destroy disease-causing organisms or substances. How the Immune System Works Match the type of cell with its job as described in the video above. Get help with this section at Kids Health. B Cell Tag invaders with antibodies so other immune system cells know what to do with them. Killer Cell To devour or kill invaders Cytotoxic Cell To destroy infected body cells before a virus has a chance to multiply. Macrophage to devour invaders and launch the immune system attack.
