Learn cell parts and functions! Match organelles, label diagrams, and compare cell types.

Matching Structures and Functions Match that organelle with its function. Mitochondria I am the powerhouse of the cell. I am responsible for generating the cell’s energy. Cell Membrane I keep the cell together and give it its shape. I control what enters and leaves the cell. Cytoplasm I am the jelly-like substance inside the cell. Nucleus I am the control centre of the cell. I contain DNA. Ribosomes I am the protein builder. As a construction guy I connect one amino acid at a time to build long protein chains. Chloroplasts I am oval in shape and am home to a green substance called chlorophyll. I help trap sunlight to make food for my boss. Vacuole I store water and dissolved substances within my walls. I am present in both animal and plant cells, however I’m much large in the latter. Cell Wall I am the tough covering around plant cells. I give them strength and hold them in shape. Label the diagrams Label each dot. Be careful with spelling! (Note: the 3rd line on the left side is pointing to a "little dot" that makes proteins.)Terms: mitochondrion, cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes, nucleus cytoplasm nucleus cell membrane mitochondrion ribosomes Terms: nucleus, vacuole, mitochondrion, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplast vacuole cell membrane chloroplast mitochondrion nucleus cell wall Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes Listen to the audio, then sort the terms and phrases in to the correct category. Prokaryotic More simple Smaller Lacks a nucleus DNA is circular Bacteria are an example Eukaryotic More complex Larger Has a nucleus DNA is linear Protists, Fungi, Plants, and Animals are examples
