Tides
Tide: the periodic rise and fall of the water level in bodies of water like the ocean. Below is an example of high and low tide. Using the above definition and diagram, match the correct definitions. High Tide when the water is at its highest level during a period of rise and fall Low Tide when the water is at its lowest level during a period of rise and fall tidal range the difference between high and low tide spring tide maximum tidal range neap tide minimum tidal range gravity of moon why tides occur A tidal bulgeis a place where the ocean level stretches and gets higher as a result. In diagrams, it is often represented as a blue circle around the Earth. Label "high tide" and "low tide" on the Tidal Bulge diagram below. Write "high tide" and "low tide" exactly how it's written within the quotations but without the quotation marks. high tide high tide low tide low tide Fill in the blanks to complete the paragraph below. Click on the word you want to fill in the blank.gravitational pull, greatest, high, low, lower, moon, opposite, Neap, rotates, Spring , sun, twice Tides are mostly the effect of the gravitational pull between the sun, Earth, and moon. The moon has a pull on the Earth's oceans that is more powerful than the sun because it is closer to the Earth. This pull creates a tidal bulge on whatever side of the Earth it is facing causing high tide. There is also high tide on the opposite side of the Earth. The sun's gravity can enhance or diminish the effects of the moon's gravitational pull. When all three are in a straight line, we experience the greatest high tide. We call this Spring Tide. When all three are at a ninety-degree angle (L shaped), we usually experience lower than normal high tides and greater than normal low tides. We call this Neap Tide. Since the Earth rotates, most places experience high tide and low tide twice a day. Label the diagram correctly. On each moon position in the diagram, there are two labels. The top label is the phase and the bottom label is the tide. Use the word bank below and type each term EXACTLY as it appears below. If terms appear twice in the word bank, it is because they appear twice on the diagram. Pay attention to where the sun is.
