Micro:Bit Mission 1

Instructions Follow each step below to learn how to write and upload your first program on the BBC Micro:Bit. 1. Materials For this activity, you will need the following materials:-1 BBC Micro:Bit-1 Micro USB Cable-(Optional) Battery Pack 2. Log onto MakeCode Go to the MakeCode WebsiteClick on the "Flashing Heart" Tutorial and start the tutorial: 3. Program your "Flashing Heart" Follow the steps in the "Flashing Heart" Tutorial. Notice how the Micro:Bit animation shows the LED's flashing on and off!Your code should look something like this: 4. Download and transfer your code to the Micro:Bit! Step 1: Click the "Download" button on MakeCodeStep 2: Connect your Micro:Bit to your computer with micro USB CableStep 3: Drag your "Flashing Heart" hex file to the Micro:BitStep 4: Wait for your code to transfer to the Micro:Bit. When the transfer is complete, you will see your heart start flashing on the LED's! 5. Improve your program! Modify your MakeCode program to animate an animal! Can a classmate guess which animal you created?Note: you will have to to re-download and transfer your new code to the Micro:Bit. 6. Share your design! What animal did you animate? Share it here!Click on the "Share" icon at the top of the screen (you may have to click "Exit Tutorial" to get the share button to appear)Copy the URL and paste it below. 7. Knowledge Check: Unplug your Micro:Bit from the computer, and then plug it back in. What happens? My code has been deleted The Micro:Bit starts running the code I uploaded earlier Nothing happens 8. Program a Name Tag! Go back to the MakeCode homepageand click on the "Name Tag" tutorial. Follow the steps to program your own name tag. Can you make it tell a fun fact about you?Don't forget to download your code and drag it to the Micro:Bit! 9. What's the difference between the "forever" block and the "on start" block? Find out for yourself, then answer the question below in complete sentences (The difference between the "forever" block and "on start" block is....) 10. Challenge: Digital Picture Book Create a MakeCode program that uses text AND pictures to tell a short story. Your story should have at least three sentencesandthree picturesthat relate to each sentence.Share your MakeCode URL below, and answer the following questions in complete sentences:1. What was your story about?2. How did your LED pictures relate to your story?3. What is something new you learned from this activity? You're done!
