He or she must have been born in the United States and lived in the country for at least 14 years. The president can serve two terms: Each is 4 years long. As part of his or her job, the president approves or vetoes laws, makes sure that everyone follows laws, and maintains relationships with other countries. The vice president is the president of the Senate and becomes president of the United States if the current president cannot serve. The Cabinet includes the vice president and the heads of 15 executive departments. The Cabinet members give advice to the president.
