There are many different ways to ask a question in Latin. Translate the questions below to practice. You do not need to answer the questions. Prīmum: Use a question word (like English who, what, where, when, why, how) quis est Quīntus?Who is Quintus?cūr tū lacrimās?Why are you crying? Secundum: By tone of voice alone. tū pecūniam dēbēs?You owe money?tū ānulum habēs?You have a ring? Tertium: by adding -ne to the first word of the sentence. There's no equivalent to this in English, and it can make familiar words hard to recognize since they did not put a space between the first word and ne. Keep your eyes peeled for this!vōsne estis contentī?Are y'all satisfied?placetne tibi? Are you pleased? Quārtum: by using the question word num, which suggests the answer will be 'no.' num Quīntus timet?Surely Quintus was not afraid?num tū Āfrō favēs?Surely you don't support Afer? Practice these all together cūr tū in hortō labōrās?Why are you working in the garden?quis est āthlēta ille?Who is that athlete?tū discum habēs?Do you have a discus?vōsne estis īrātī?Are y'all angry?ubi sunt mercātōrēs?Where are the merchants?quid quaeris, domina? What are you looking for, mistress?tūne Pompēiānus es?Are you a Pompeiian?quis vīnum portat?Who is carrying the wine?cēnam parās?Are you preparing dinner?num cēnam parās?Sure you are not preparing dinner?
