In this video he discusses metric units as well as "Traditional units" which sometimes is called customary units. Most countries use the metric system except the United States. However, scientists no matter what country they live in use the metric system. In the second half of the video he discusses relating one system to the other system; you do not have to know this information for 3rd grade, but I wanted to give you an introduction to what you will learn in the future. Remember, distance can refer to height, width, length, etc. In this video he discusses how to measure distance and the tools used to measure distance. In 3rd grade you need to know how to measure to the nearest inch, one-fourth of an inch, and half of an inch. Typically, 3rd graders only need to know how to measure to the nearest centimeter.
