Master estimating mixed numbers by rounding! Practice addition & subtraction with our fun math lesson.

Module 5, Lesson 29: Estimating Mixed Numbers When we estimate whole numbers, we ROUND them to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, etc. Estimating mixed numbers is really similar! You will round each mixed number to the nearest whole number, then add or subtract.Example:1 3 + 3 1 = 1 3 is really close to 2. I know this, because 3 is ALMOST 1 whole. So, it rounds up to 2! 3 1 is really close to 3. I know this, because 1 is really small and would round down. It's 3!So...2 + 3 = 5 Remember, this is CLOSE, but not EXACT. That's ok!Another Example:6 3 - 2 5 = 6 3 is really close to 6. I know this, because 3 is small and rounds down! So, it's 6. 2 5 is really close to 3. I know this, because 5 is almost 1 whole and rounds up. It's 3!So...6 - 3 = 3 Remember, this is CLOSE, but not EXACT. That's ok! 4 8 7 4 8 Module 5, Lesson 29 Video Watch this video for help on how to complete the problem set!
