3rd Grade Fractions Part 1
Master 3rd grade fractions! Learn what they are, how they relate to division, and identify types.
Before the break we were working on fractions. We will continue to dive deeper into fractions. We will watch the videos together and then you will answer the questions on your own. You are used to working with whole numbers, but now we are going to be working with fractions. In this video, Math Antics - Fractions Are Parts, he discusses what fractions are. We will dive deeper into fractions throughout this unit. After the videos make sure you answer the questions. In this video, Math Antics - Fractions are Division, he continues to discuss what fractions are by connecting fractions to division. Match each fraction. 1 (one-half, one out of two) two-eighths (2 two out of eight) one-fourth (1 one out of four) 1 (one-fifth, one out of five) one-third (1 one out of three) two-fourths (2 two out of four) In this video, Math Antics - Types of Fractions, he discusses the different types of fractions. In 3rd grade you will need to know these types of fractions, but there is one slight difference. In the video he discusses improper fractions, in 3rd grade these are called, "fractions greater than one". When you get in older grades they will be discussed as improper fractions; they are the same because if it is improper than it is greater than one. This video also helps you estimate fractions which will help you in the future.
