Communism vs. Democracy Communism and Democracy are two very different political, social and economic systems. Each system claims to work for the will of the people and do what is best. However, due to corrupt and inept leadership this experience has varied from nation to nation. In a Democracy the people have the right to choose or vote for their leadership. Regardless of what political group they belong to they have the right to vote and choose their leadership. In a democracy the people who do get elected work for the people and are supposed to serve the will of the people on key issues such as welfare, defense and the economy. They only help to manage these systems they are not expected run them or interfere too heavily with them.Capitalism is a key part of a Democracy it allows citizens to create a stable and healthy economy. In a capitalist democracy anyone can work hard and achieve wealth. There is no limit on the amount a person can earn and there are often incentives to create and come up with new ways to create more profit. In a capitalist democracy people are allowed to own private property such as homes, cars, businesses, etc… The government tries its best to not get overly involved with managing the economy and is only expected to keep the system fair for everyone. In this system companies can produce anything that is in demand and wealth is created by the sale of these products.Communism is a very different form of government that attempts to control both society and the economy. In a communist country an oligarchy (few people who control government) called the Communist Party run the country. This political although elected into office is the only party that is allowed to run rendering the need to vote unnecessary.Communism controls all aspects of society and allows for every person to have a job and be treated equally. In a communist country the government owns everything and the people share all of the wealth in the country. Because no one in the country is allowed to own personal property there is little individual wealth. In a communist country everyone earns the exact same amount of money from doctors to the street sweepers. This system allows for everyone to have a job but no one can earn more than everyone else so there is little incentive to create more wealth. Since government controls the companies directly they get to set the amount of production that is created in the country. For example in a communist country the amount of cars that are produced and their prices is set by the government and not by the company. Use the reading to help you match the ideas with the government structure. Communism controls all aspects of society allows for every person to have a job and be treated equally typically run by an oligarchy Democracy often paired with capitalism people have the right to choose or vote for their leadership no limit on the amount a person can earn Political Cartoon In each box on the political cartoon, describe what you see in the cartoon and what it might symbolize: Analyze the Photo Describe the right side of the wall and describe the left side of the wall.
