Discover your ecological footprint and how your lifestyle affects the planet. Learn to make greener choices!

How much "nature" does our lifestyle require? All the decisions we make daily about our lifestyle have serious and long-lasting consequences for our planet. We are not always aware of this. These consequences are called our "ecological footprint".The ecological footprint measures the space on Earth an individual uses to support his or her lifestyle. It is influenced by our everyday actions like eating and drinking, switching on a light, going by car or traveling by other means, buying something to wear or to use. Each time, we are adding to our footprint. Our individual footprint on Earth is calculated by the amount of natural resources (land, sea, fresh water) needed to produce all things we use. It also measures the amount of energy we use and the emissions we create from oil, coal and gas, and the amount of land we need toabsorb all the waste we create. The more resources are necessary to support our lifestyle, the larger the footprint.Everyone leaves a footprint on Earth: it's the size that may be the problem. Some may be bigger than is good for the rest of us.
