His mother and father died. He lived in a big, dirty house with other children who didn't have parents. Oliver and the other children didn't go to school. They couldn't play. They worked every day from morning until night. Oliver was always sad and hungry. One day, Oliver sat down in the dining room and the cook poured him a small bowl of soup. Oliver finished it quickly and was still hungry. He asked the master for more food. The master shouted at Oliver and said he is a bad boy.Oliver decided to run away to London and find a nice, clean house to live in with a lot of good food to eat. In London, Oliver met Fagin. Fagin said he will give Oliver food, drink and a bed for free if Oliver steals for him.Fagin tells Oliver he must steal from a man on the street. Oliver didn't want to do it so another boy said he will steal. The boy stole the money and gave it to Oliver. The man shouted: "Stop! A thief!"A policeman heard the man and when he saw Oliver with the money he caught him. The others ran away when they saw the policeman. The policeman said: "This boy is a thief. He took your money." Oliver said it wasn't him. It was another boy and that a bad man called Fagin told him to steal. The man's name was Mr. Brownlow. He looked at Oliver and said that he thinks Oliver is a good boy and that he didn't take his money. He thinks Oliver is just hungry and thirsty. Mr. Brownlow invited Oliver to his house. He looked after him and gave him clean clothes and a comfortable bed to sleep in.One day, Mr. Brownlow showed Oliver a picture of a woman. It was Oliver's mom. He told Oliver he has money for Oliver that his mom gave him. He can give him the money but Oliver must be a good person.Mr. Brownlow helped Oliver and Oliver didn't steal. At last, he was happy.
