While Mr. Jones was sleeping (sleep) in his bed two weeks ago, he heard (hear) strange noises from the apartment downstairs from him. It was strange because his downstairs neighbors, the Smiths, were very quiet people. They never made (make) any noise, except once, when they had guests.Mr. Jones decided (decide) to stay in bed. But just as he was falling (fall) asleep again he heard (hear) the noise, and it was getting (get) louder and louder. His neighbors were shouting (shout) very loudly. He couldn't understand what they were saying(say) but it was clear that they were angry with each other. After a long time, he managed(manage) to fall asleep again.When Mr. Jones woke up in the morning, everything was quiet again. In fact, he saw(see) his neighbors, the Smiths, smiling at him as they left their house for work. They seemed very happy and not at all angry. Mr. Jones was confused.The next night, once more, Mr. Jones could not sleep. As he was lying (lie) in bed, he heard (hear) noise from the Smiths' house. They were shouting (shout) loudly and angrily.
