Paragraphing your writing
What are paragraphs? Watch this short video clip! What's the point of paragraphs? Put these statements into the correct group, based on their subject: Sports I play hockey for Chichester. I'm a massive Chelsea fan. I really enjoy playing netball. I usually play as a defender, regardless of the sport. I go to watch live football whenever I can. Although I love playing hockey, I don't enjoy watching it as much as I enjoy watching football. I try to play sports as often as possible. People often assume I'm a PE teacher. I get really upset when Chelsea lose. I would probably describe myself as a sporty person. I enjoy taking my dogs for a run sometimes, but only if they can go off the lead. Animals I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels: they are called Betty and Piper. I have two baby tortoises, called Mitch and Cam. I have two cats. Their names are Dana and Shane and they are sister and brother. I used to keep chickens when I had a bigger garden. I love getting fresh eggs every day from their house. I often wonder if I should have been a vet because I love animals so much. I have many pets. I only recently got them, so I'm excited to see how they will grow up. Foods When I wake up in the morning, I often think about what I'll cook for dinner. As a child I was very fussy so now I don't eat cheese or fish at all. I didn't have pasta until I was 18, or curry until I was 19. Nowadays, and Indian takeaway is one of my favourite meals. I love pizza but I have mine without cheese. I love stodgy puddings such as treacle sponge and spotted dick with custard. I have a bit of an addiction to chocolate - especially Galaxy or Dairy Milk. Paragraphs should be ordered in a particular way. The first sentence of a paragraph is called a topic sentence. This introduces the topic of the paragraph. It can also link to the previous paragraph. Using the groups in the first task (animals, sport or food)choose one of the topics, and place the sentences in order to write a paragraph from them. You may add words or change punctuation but you must use the sentences given. You may add connectives, other words, or change punctuation but you must use the information I've given you in the sentences. The paragraph should make sense!
