Listen to the lesson and fill in the blanks with the correct words. A simple sentence contains a subject, a verb and expresses a complete thought. A simple sentence can also be called an independent clause. Reading would be miserable if there were only simple sentences!!! We need to mix it so we also use compound sentences. A compound sentence is 2 or more independent clauses (simple sentences) joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction. A comma is a mark of punctuation used to separate words in a sentence. A coordinating conjunction joins 2 or more words, phrases, or clauses. To remember coordinating conjunctions think of the word FANBOYS. F-for, A-and, N-nor, B-but, O-or, Y-yet, S-so.
