They're fun, they are enchanting, but these sea creatures are a whole lot more than meets the eye.First, they are intelligent. Researchers found that they have a "highly developed spoken language" much like that of humans. It is a COMBINATION of pulses, clicks, and whistles that allow them to communicate. Their language has all the features of human spoken language. They can pronounce vowels and combinations of vowels.Second, dolphins are very SENSITIVE animals and in times of trouble, they can SUPPORT each other. ACCORDING TO scientists, dolphins RECOGNIZE each other by the sound of each dolphin’s whistle (= שריקה). HOWEVER, scientists didn’t know how long dolphins can remember these whistles. Bruck is a scientist who studies animal BEHAVIOR at the University of Chicago. He wanted to find out if dolphins remember the whistle of an old friend. He recorded the whistles of SEVERAL dolphins and played them to other dolphins they once knew. To his surprise, when the dolphins heard the familiar whistle, they swam happily towards the voice. When the dolphins REALIZED that their dolphin friend was not there, there was a lot of DISAPPOINTMENT and sadness.Another well-known fact is that they have a REPUTATION for being friendly. They enjoy being with friends and spend a lot of time “playing” with other dolphins. Dolphins establish strong social connections ESPECIALLY when it comes to injured and ill dolphins. Dolphins will stay with ill and injured dolphins, even helping them breathe. They do this wonderful act by bringing them to the surface and making sure their “friend” is okay! They know they can TRUST each other in times of need.Though dolphins are friendly creatures, just like humans, ONCE IN A WHILE they love to goof off with their friends. Researchers observed they play-fight as if they were children. This type of play is actually SUPPOSED TO help young dolphins practice and perfect their social skills. In light of the above there is no doubt that dolphins are the coolest creatures in the ocean—and maybe even on the entire planet! Suzy and Leah - Answer the questions. It is clear that Leah suffered from what she experienced in the war. Give an example of one traumatic event and explain how it affected Leah. You must give specific details from the story! Leah, August 5: “The other children all grab the candies like wild animals.” - How did each girl react to the event? Explain why each girl reacted the way she did. The two narrators, Suzy and Leah, tell the story from different perspectives. Explain why they have a different point of view. What can we infer about Suzy and about Lea from what they each wrote about Lea saving the school lunches?
