An air traffic controller coordinates the movement of air traffic, guiding pilots during takeoff and landing and monitoring the planes as they travel through the skies. Read the explanation Tony Mendez gives about his job.Air traffic control is divided into two different jobs. The job of the airport terminal controllers who work at airports and the "in route" or area controllers who work in a separate control tower. Those at the airport help the pilots during takeoff as they fly the planes out of the airport and during landing when they arrive. At peak times, there is a lot of traffic at big international airports, and airport terminal controllers are responsible for directing all this. They coordinate all the different take-off and landing times, making sure that the aircraft has enough room to maneuver and that there is the same distance between them. Then "in route," or area controllers like me, help to guide the pilots and direct air traffic flow between airports. I don't work at the airport. I work at an Area Control Center in Air Traffic Control. We use radar and computer systems to follow the exact position of each aircraft in flight. An air traffic controller at the terminal: Works in the airport directing the traffic of the planes. Works in the airport making sure the airplanes have enough fuel for take-off. Works in the airport controlling the passengers so no terrorist arrive or depart. The "in route" or area controllers... also work in the airport guiding the pilots. work in a control center guiding pilots with radars and computers. work in a control center watching from the window that plate take off and land safely. Tony Mendez is an airport terminal controller. True False Airport terminal controllers coordinate that the planes have enough space between when landing and taking off. schedule the times planes can land and take off. make sure planes are close together so passengers can get out quickly.
