Formatting In-text Citations in MLA 8
Master MLA 8 in-text citations! Practice citing various sources accurately.
Each source quote needs to have a citation, but they are different types of sources. The sources are listed at the bottom (of the question), so you know what information is available. The first quote in the text is from page 60 in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The second quote is from the second source listed in the Works Cited (below the passage), and the third quote is from the third source. Pay attention to punctuation and spacing. While she once felt certain of her identity, Alice's experiences in Wonderland have caused her to question herself. When she meets the caterpillar and he asks her who she is, she responds, “I--I hardly know sir, just at present--at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have changed at least several times since then” (Carroll 60). Her response shows that “Alice herself is uncertain if she is the little girl she has always known herself to be due to her bizarre external experiences” (Leach). Her lack of a definitive answer when asked who she is shows that “she is trying to find a consistent answer to this question the whole way through the story” (“Nature”). Alice seems to see that one's identity is not static.Works CitedCarroll, Lewis. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland . D.
