The Metamorphosis explores the topic of isolation by telling the story of Gregor Samsa, a travelling salesman who transforms into a vermin without explanation. This topic is introduced in the first chapter when Gregor thanks himself for locking the doors. Then, in the second chapter, Gregor wishes to see his mother. Finally, in the last chapter, Gregor's door is open but he doesn't leave.
