Possessive nouns tell us who or what has or owns something. They answer the question Whose?Look at the picture above. There is a parrot on the left, and there are some parts of its body on the right.For example, you can see the parrot's eye, the parrot's wing, and the parrot's leg. The word parrot's is a possessive noun. Why? Because it shows possession (擁有權). These body parts belong to the parrot. 1. Singular Possessive Nouns To form a singular possessive noun, add an apostrophe (') and the letter "s" to the end of the noun. singular noun + 's = possessive form e.g. brother + 's = brother's My brother's bicycle is green.*Note: Singular nouns ending in “s” are a little different. You can either just add the apostrophe (') or you can add an apostrophe (') and “s.” e.g. This is my boss' car. ✔ This is my boss's car. ✔e.g. I’m in Ms. Jones’class this year. ✔ I’m in Ms. Jones’s class this year. ✔ Fill in the blanks with the possessive form of the singular nouns in brackets. e.g. This is Matt's (Matt) homework.1. For regular plural nouns that end in "s", add an apostrophe (') after the "s." regular plural noun + ' = possessive form e.g. cats + '= cats' The cats' food is in the bowl.2. For irregular plural nouns that do not end in "s", add an apostrophe (') and the letter "s" at the end of the word. irregular plural noun + 's = possessive form e.g. children + 's= children's The children's parents were waiting.
