It has been traced back to a monk named St. Nicholas who was born around 280 A.D. in Patara, which is in modern-day Turkey. St. Nicholas was admired for his piety. He gave away his inheritedwealth and traveled the countryside to help people that were poor or sick. The more good he did, the more people noticed. Sailors prayed to him during times of rough seas and spread stories around the world. He became known for being a protector of children and sailors. Currently, there between 45,000 and 50,000 narwhals left. They are nearly threatened of becoming endangered. They are found in the Atlantic ocean and Russian waters of the Arctic Ocean. What is causing their numbers to decline? Scientists point to one major cause. Their habitat is threatened by the effects of climate change. Narwhals are adapted to live on and around sea ice. Warmer temperatures has caused the ice to melt and the sea ice decreases. They rely on the sea ice for a place to hide from predators such as polar bears and orcas. This is also a problem for the Narwhal's primary prey and source of food- the Greenland halibut. Clearly, climate change is a big problem for the narwhal and just one of several causes of the decline in their population. The sea ice begins to melt. The Greenland halibut lose their habitat. riskey riskyblankit blanketpockit pocket The elves are going to wrap (their, there, they're) presents in the workshop. their there they're (Their, There, They're) are a group of elves building trains.
