Point, Evidence, & Analysis--PEA paragraph
Drag and drop the correctly written parts of a PEEA paragraph that discusses the theme of the short story "Examination Day." All of the written sections should be placed in a sorting box. There will be several that are not appropriate or usable, so place them in that space. POINT In the short story, "Examination Day" written by Henry Selsar, the theme is that high intelligence can be viewed as a dangerous thing. 1st Evidence (context, lead-in, quote, citation) After Dickie Jordan took the government intelligent test, his father received a call with the results. The voice on the telephone said, "We regret to inform you that his intelligence quotient is above the Government regulation, according to Rule 84 Section 5 of the New Code" (Slesar 2). 2nd Evidence (transition, context, lead-in, quote, citation) Another moment in the story that demonstrates how high intelligence can be a dangerous thing is noted when Mrs. Jordan, "...cried out, knowing nothing except the emotion she read on her husband's face" (Slesar 2). ANALYSIS This is significant because we can infer that he was too intelligent. Apparently, their government thinks that citizens who are above average could be a threat to society, and they are eliminated or killed. In this place, a high intelligence can definitely be viewed as a dangerous thing. Not a good choice for this paragraph The government kills kids that have high of intelligence. This evidence says that the mom is upset. This evidence is significant to the point because the government has rules on people being smart so that means he is in trouble for asking too many questions and how he knew all the stuff. It shows how if you have a high enteligence it can be bad for you. In my evidence it says how he scored high and it is talking about how it is above the government regulation.
