Distinguish direct from indirect characterization examples!

Read through the descriptions and place them in the appropriate column: direct characterization or indirect characterization. Direct Characterization The young boy was spoiled. The old woman was lonely. The woman was powerful and important. The mother was tired. Indirect Characterization The young threw himself on the floor of the store after his mother told him that he couldn't have another toy. The elderly woman lingered for a moment at the counter even though she'd received her drink. As she approached the building, assistants scrambled to ensure that everything was in order for her arrival. Her chin rested in her hand as she sat at her desk. Her eyes drooped closed momentarily before she shook herself awake and took a large gulp of her coffee. "Come over anytime!" her neighbor said while waving goodbye. The little girl smoothed the edge of her white dress and sat down carefully, checking to make sure the seat was clean. When Rae saw the car in the driveway, her heart leapt out of her chest.
