Master photosynthesis and cellular respiration! Learn about chloroplasts, mitochondria, and energy cycles in our engaging biology worksheet.

Chemical Reactions: Reactants are what go into a chemical reaction and products are what come out of a chemical reaction Photosynthesis Occurs in the chloroplast Reactants = Carbon Dioxide and Water Products = Glucose and Oxygen Makes food for plant cells Uses energy from the sun Occurs in plants only Cellular Respiration Occurs in the Mitochondria Occurs in both plants and animals Reactants = Glucose and Oxygen Products = Carbon Dioxide and Water Produces ATP Is an aerobic process Match the terms with their correct definition Aerobic Requires oxygen Anaerobic Does NOT require oxygen Fermentation Follows cellular respiration when oxygen is not present Fermentation When oxygen is not present, cells will carry out fermentation in place of cellular respiration. There are two types of cellular respiration; Lactic Acid Fermentation and Alcoholic Fermentation. Complete the sorting activity below to deepen your understanding of the processes: Lactic Acid Fermentation Occurs in humans Causes sore muslces Alcoholic Fermentation Occurs in yeast Used to make bread and yogurt Both Anaerobic Occurs in the cytoplasm Compare and Contrast Mitochondria and Chloroplast Mitochondria Found in both plants and animals Carries out cellular respiration Takes in oxygen and glucose and produces carbon dioxide and water Makes energy in the form of ATP Chloroplast Found in plants but NOT animals Carries out photosynthesis Makes plants green Takes in carbon dioxide and water to produce glucose and oxygen Photosynthesis and Cellular respiration act as a cycle. Use this information to label the picture and complete the sentence below: What organelle is represented by A? ChloroplastWhat process is represented by B? PhotosynthesisWhat product is represented by C? ATPWhat organelle is represented by D? MitochondriaWhat process is represented by E? Cellular RespirationCellular respiration and photosynthesis are considered a cycle because the products of one reaction serve as the reactants for the other reaction. Label the chloroplast below with the correct inputs, outputs, and steps of photosynthesis. HINT: Light-dependent reactions, calvin cycle, ATP, and NADPH are are few words to get you started..... Water Sunlight Light-dependent reactions Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Calvin Cycle Glucose ATP NADPH The first step of cellular respiration is glycolysis and this process occurs in the cytoplasm. If no oxygen is present then fermentation occurs, which is anaerobic. This produces lactic acid and ethanol. If oxygen is present then aerobic respiration occurs. Glycolysis produces 2 ATP, 2 Pyruvates, and 2 NADH. The products from glycolysis become the reactants in step 2 which is the Krebs Cycle. This process is aerobic and occurs in the mitochondria. This produces 2 ATP, Hydrogens, and energized electrons that become the reactants for step 3. Step 3 is the Electron Transport Chain which is also aerobic and occurs in the mitochondria. This produces 34-36 ATP that the cell uses for energy to carry out activities. Label the process of cellular respiration below using the following words: Cytoplasm, mitochondria, electron transport chain, krebs cycle, glycolysis, glucose, 2 ATP, 2 ATP, 32 ATP Glucose Glycolysis 2 ATP Cytoplasm Mitochondria Krebs Cycle 2 ATP Electron Transport Chain 32 ATP Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis Watch the video and complete the questions above.
