Unit 1 LIVING THINGS - Life processes
Life processes All living thing organisms perform three life processes: nutrition, reproductionandinteraction.Depending on the organism, these processes are carried out in different ways. Nutrition All living things take in nutrients from their environment to obtain energy. This energy allows them to grow and function properly.Depending on how they take nutrients in we can divide them into three different groups: plants, animals and decomposers. Plants Plants produce their own food through photosynthesis. Animals Animals cannot produce their own food so they feed on other living things. Decomposers Decomposers, such as fungi and bacteria, feed on the remains of dead plants and animals. Reproduction This process allows living things to make new living things.Reproduction can be asexual or sexual. ▪ Asexual reproduction occurs when only one organism is required. It is common in unicellular organisms, such as bacteria.▪ Sexual reproduction involves two individuals of the same species: a male and a female. Interaction Living things react to stimuli. Stimuli are changes in the environment. Any reaction of a living thing to stimuli is a response. Most plants do not have sensory organs like animals do but they can also react to stimuli. 1. Complete the concept map. life nutrition animals reproduction asexual 2. Complete the text about reproduction. Reproduction is a process through which new organisms are created. Sexual reproduction requires two individuals: a maleand a female. Other living things reproduce without the help of another individual. This is called asexual reproduction.
