Tuning Your Instrument! WARNING: If your strings are very loose, have your teacher use the pegs to tune your instrument.DO NOT try to do this yourself! Steps 1. Make sure the tuner is turned on (silver button).2. Clip the tuner on your instrument. VIOLIN on peg or scroll. CELLO on bridge.Adjust the screen so you can see it.3. Start by playing your open A string using the bow. Sustain this pitch and look at the needle of the tuning meter. The screen should say “A” (name of string). If it says something other than the name of the string, ask your teacher for help.If the tuning needle is to the LEFT of the center, your string is FLAT. Turn the fine tuner CLOCKWISE.If the tuning needle is to the RIGHT of the center, your string is SHARP. Turn the fine tuner COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Continue turning the fine tuner in the appropriate direction. When the tuning needle points STRAIGHT up and down in the center, your string is IN TUNE.4. Once your A string is in tune, move on to tuning your next open string. Tips 1. A small turn will produce a small change in pitch; a large turn will produce a large change in pitch.2. If your strings are loose, have your teacher help you.3. Do not turn the pegs.4. Keep practicing- tuning is a learned art! Your turn! How is tuning going for you?Start with just your A string, and then move to your other strings. Record! Record yourself tuning your A string.
