This phase of the production process includes fleshing out the story idea, writing a draft of the script, and figuring out the financial logistics of the project. Pre- Production It is the planning process and execution of every task that must take place before production begins. It usually begins once the script is finished and involves the director, cinematographer, producers, first assistant director, production managers, production coordinators, and location scouts. Production The Writer, Director, Producer, and countless other creative minds finally see their ideas captured on film, one day at a time. It is usually the shortest of the five phases, even though it is paramount to the film and where most of the budget is allotted. It is also the busiest time, with the crew swelling to hundreds and the days becoming longer in order to be as efficient as possible with all the gear and locations on hire. Post- Production It is the editing portion of the filmmaking or video production process. During this process, the post-production crew not only pieces together raw footage, but adds sound (including music, voiceovers, and sound effects) and visual effects. Distribution It is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. This is normally the task of a professional film distributor, who would determine the marketing strategy for the film, the media by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing, and who may set the release date and other matters.
