In this scene from The Music Man, Professor Harold Hill stops at River City , Iowa to "sell" his idea of a boys band. Please watch the video clip of "Iowa Stubborn" and then answer the questions that follow. In the first part of the video (before the actual song begins), Professor Hill is getting the "cold shoulder" treatment from the residents of River City, Iowa. Explain what the term "cold shoulder" means. Even though the people of River City seem unfriendly and rude, Professor Hill isn't discouraged or makes an attempt to leave the town. Why do you suppose he chooses to stay? Describe a time in your life when you didn't feel accepted or welcome. How did you respond?
