Layers of the Earth Extra Practice
Explore Earth's layers! Label crust, mantle, and cores. Sort descriptions and fill in blanks.
Label the 4 layers of the Earth Click on the blue button and insert the correct name of that specific Earth layer. SPELLING MATTERS CRUST MANTLE OUTER CORE INNER CORE Sort the descriptions into the proper groups (LAYERS OF EARTH) based on your notes. AKS 2f. I can identify and describe the layers of Earth. Crust COLDEST LAYER COMPOSED OF MOSTLY SOLID ROCK OCEANIC AND CONTINENTAL OUTERMOST LAYER LEAST DENSE Mantle THICKEST LAYER IN KILOMETERS ALMOST MELTED ROCK THAT CAN SLOWLY FLOW Outer Core LIQUID LAYER LIQUID IRON AND NICKEL LIES BETWEEN THE MANTLE AND THE INNER CORE Inner Core SOLID IRON AND NICKEL MOST DENSE LAYER HOTTEST LAYER As you read the passage below, insert the appropriate word in each blank that best suits the meaning of the sentence. Earth's LayersThe crust is the least dense, thin outer layer of the Earth where we live. The continental crust is mainly composed of granite rock, while the ocean crust is more dense and composed of basalt rock. The next layer of the Earth is called the mantle. The mantle is the thickest layer at almost 3000km deep and contains solid, near liquid rock called magma. The layer below the mantle is Earth's outer core , and it is made up of liquid iron and nickel. Scientists know this layer is liquid because of how earthquake waves move through it. The outer core is very important to earth because it creates Earth's magnetic field. The innermost layer is Earth's inner core . This layer is a source of heat. It is the most dense layer and is made up of iron and nickel, just like the outer core. However, the inner core is so deep within the earth that immense(a lot) pressure forces this layer to be asolid.
