The MOle
Unlock the mystery of the mole! Learn about Avogadro's number and how chemists count tiny particles.
Understanding the MOLE This video with help you with understanding why we use the concept of the MOLE. Take some notes on a google doc or in a spiral. While watching the video, use the word bank to fill in the blanks. A mole is a concept used in chemistry to count molecules, atomsand just about anything extremely small. In 1811, someone had an idea that if you had equal volumes of gas at the same temperature and same pressure, they would have the same number of molecules. If you pour 18.01 grams of water into a glass, you will have 6.02x10^23molecules of water. Avogadro'snumber, 6.02x10^23, is also referred to as a mole. If you had a mole of donuts, it would cover the whole earth to a depth of 18kilometers. Chemists use the mole that same way you would use poundsto buy food at the deli. # of Moles Molar Mass Element 1 12.011 Carbon 1 26.982 Aluminum 1 6.941 Lithium 2 8.006 Helium 1 44.009 CO2 3 540.468 C6H12O6
