Going ShoppingBy Patti Hutchison "Mom, we're out of peanut butter!" cried Adam. "Write it down on the list on the refrigerator," said Mom. "Why do you always have that list there?" asked Adam. "It makes it easier when I go grocery shopping. It helps me to remember what I need to get. It saves me time and money. I am going shopping this afternoon. Do you want to go with me?" Mom asked. "Can I pick out my favorite kind of jelly?" Adam asked. "Sure you can," said Mom. Where does Adam's mom keep her grocery list? on the counter on the refrigerator in the car Why does Adam's mom always have a grocery list? to remember what she needs to save time to save money all of the above Adam's mom made sure she put the list in her purse before they left for the store. On the way Adam asked how having a shopping list saved time and money. His mom told him that she looked at the list while she shopped. If she got all the things on the list, they would have everything they needed for a whole week. She wouldn't have to go to the store again until next week. That saves time. "By getting only what's on the list, I won't buy things we don't need," Mom explained. "That saves money." "But how do you always know what we need at the store?" asked Adam. "I keep that list on the refrigerator. When we run out of something, I write it down right away. I also think about the meals we will be having for the next week. I think of the breakfasts and dinners we will eat at home. I also think of the lunches I will pack for all of us. I decide what we will have for each meal. Then I write down all the food we will need to fix those meals." "That is very smart," Adam told his mom. They picked up the peanut butter that they were out of. The jelly was on the next shelf down. Adam picked out his favorite kind- grape. Adam and his mom went up and down all the aisles.
