Two Types of Forces Contact forces only act between objects that are physically touching each other. Non-contact forces are forces that act between two objects that are not physically touching each other. A magnet could move a metal object without touching it. As a piece of paper slowly falls to the ground, the first type of force acting on the paper in the direction of the ground is gravity. As the same piece of paper slowly falls to the ground, the second type of force acting on the paper in the direction of opposite of the ground is air resistance.
