Distinguishing Different Perspectives This H.O.T.S means finding 2 different points of view, which are both correct, or relevant to the situation. It means to understand how each person looks at the situation. To see how the different perspectives make each character (if that is the case)act and react accordingly. Now, let's look at different perspective in the story:1. Why does George avoid talking to Mr. Catanzara? He is ashamed for lying to him. He is embarrassed for not reading even one book. He is afraid that the change maker will out him as a fraud to the other people in the neighborhood. All answers are correct. 2. Why doesn't George go to night school? He thinks that the other kids are much younger than him. He feels that the teachers do not respect him. He feels that it is too late for him. 3. When George saw Mr. Catanzara coming up the street. Why didn't George turn? He was sure Mr. Catanzara was too drunk to notice him. He was happy to meet Mr. Catanzara and talk to him. He forgot why he was avoiding the change maker. Uncovering Motives Identifying motives (reasons) for a character's behavior, while supporting this with evidence from the text. What has led the character to do what he had done. 4. Mr. Catanzara walks passed George, but then stops and turns back to talk to the young man. Why do you think he does that? He knows George is not reading books and he wants to yell at him. He cares a lot about George and wants to greet him. He is sad George doesn't do anything to improve himself and reach his full potential. 5. For this question use the thinking skill of Uncovering Motives. Remember to use at least 2 appropriate thinking skill words.Mr. Catanzara says to George:"Go buy yourself a lemon ice, Georgie"There are 2 things in this sentence, which tell the readers that Mr. Catanzara treats George as if he was a young boy.A. What are they?B. Why do you think Mr. Catanzara does that? Explaining Patterns identifying and explaining different patterns in the text. This can be a pattern within the text, such as repeated words or the rhyme scheme of a poem. It can also be a pattern of behavior a character repeats which may be of importance or may explain something related to a question you have to answer. 6. At the end of the story we learn that one day George went to the library, counted off 100 books and started to read.Answer from your own prospective:Do you think this behavior is a NEW DEVELOPMENT in George, or MORE OF THE SAME? 7.
