Why do Danforth and Parris question Proctor's motivations for bringing this proof to the court so harshly? They already know Elizabeth is a witch. They know John is a pathological liar. They think he's trying to overthrow the court. Parris hates Proctor and wants Danforth to kill him. Why is Hale defending John, Giles, and Francis when he is likely to blame for the chaos in the first place?
