There are over 225 owl species in the world. One type of owl is the Barn Owl. Barn Owls are the most widespread of all owl species and can be found on every continent except Antarctica. These owls have a white heart-shaped face and round heads without ear tufts. Their chest is white with small brown spots. The back is tawny and marked with black and white spots. Barn owls eat small mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. Their call is not a normal hoot like other owls, but a long, hissing scream.Another type of owl is the Great Horned Owl. The Great Horned Owl can be found all across North America. They have a rounded face with ear tufts, unlike the Barn Owl. Great Horned Owls also have yellow eyes that do not move. The feathers on their heads look like horns, which explains the name. The call of a Great Horned Owl is a deep, soft hoot.
