Day 3 Variable Introduction
There are several variable terms that must be known! Independent Variable: -What is changing in the experiment. What are we altering?Dependent Variable: -What we are measuring in the experiment. Its value “depends” on other variables.Control Variable: -The experiment element that is unchanging throughout the experiment. Control Group: -The “normal” testing group.Hypothesis: -An educated guess at the start of experimentation as a starting point for further investigation. “If...then...because…” A group of students tries to lower their pulse through controlled breathing. They do one trial each with their normal resting pulse; then do another each using the breathing technique. They found that controlled breathing does lower their pulse.According to the experiment above, which of the following is the independent variable? Breathing Students Pulse A group of students tries to lower their pulse through controlled breathing. They do one trial each with their normal resting pulse; then do another each using the breathing technique. They found that controlled breathing does lower their pulse.According to the experiment above, which of the following is the dependent variable? Breathing Students Pulse A group of students tries to lower their pulse through controlled breathing. They do one trial each with their normal resting pulse; then do another each using the breathing technique. They found that controlled breathing does lower their pulse.According to the experiment above, which of the following is the control group? Trial with controlled breathing. Trial with normal resting pulse All experiments must have the following! They must...1. be detailed2. have multiple trials3. have a control group4. have one independent variable A group of students performed an experiment to see whether listening to music for one minute would lower the pulse of a person. They had one student sit in a chair for one minute and then measured their pulseThey had one student sit in a chair and listen to rock music and then measured their pulse for one minute. They analyzed their results and since the pulse of the student was lower when listening to the music, they concluded that rock music does lower pulse. What was wrong with the above experiment? They didn’t include a control group. They didn’t include multiple trials. They included more than one independent variable.
